Important Notice: Upholding Respect, Safety, and Sportsmanship at Our Games It has recently come to our attention that there have been instances where parents from opposing teams have approached coaches and players from the opposition, as well as taken photographs of players without permission. While we understand that emotions can run high during competitive games, we must stress that these behaviors are unacceptable and fall outside both the spirit of the game and GSBA guidelines. Key Guidelines to Remember: Respect for Opposition Teams: Approaching opposition coaches or players, particularly children, without invitation or necessity, is strictly prohibited. This includes any form of direct interaction such as conversations, questions, or unsolicited advice. Opposition players and staff deserve their space to focus on the game, just as your team does. Photography and Privacy: Taking photos or videos of players from the opposing team without proper consent violates privacy and can lead to uncomfortable situations for both the players and their families. GSBA Child Protection Laws are clear: the safeguarding of young athletes is paramount. Unauthorized photography not only breaches these laws but undermines the sense of security that we work hard to maintain for every child participating in the sport. A Commitment to Child Safety: Our goal is to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all athletes, where they can enjoy the sport, grow, and develop. Approaching children from opposing teams, whether out of enthusiasm, curiosity, or any other reason, crosses personal boundaries. This behavior may lead to consequences for those involved, not just under GSBA rules but potentially under child protection regulations. We strongly discourage any form of interaction with the opposition’s children unless in a formal and supervised context. What Should You Do If You Have Concerns? If you have an issue or concern, the appropriate course of action is to address it with your own club first. Should the matter be more serious, you may escalate the issue by emailing childsafety@gsba.com.au. Please be aware that for any complaint to be taken seriously and acted upon, it must include the complainant’s name and contact details. Anonymous complaints will not be processed as we require accountability and transparency in all communications. Our intent is not to embarrass or single out anyone, but to protect the integrity of the game and the welfare of our young athletes. Should these actions continue, the individuals involved may find themselves in uncomfortable situations as we are committed to enforcing these guidelines strictly. Enjoy the Game, Support Positive Participation We trust that all parents and supporters understand the importance of these rules and will come to the games to enjoy the performances of the athletes. Let’s all focus on creating a positive, fun, and healthy environment for our children, where the joy of sport, camaraderie, and personal development take precedence. Thank you for your cooperation, understanding, and respect for the values that make our games enjoyable for everyone. |
